Diagnodent® The Diagnodent® is an FDA-approved diagnostic laser that is used primarily to locate decay below the chewing surfaces of back teeth in deep grooves and pits. The Diagnodent®’s laser will detect decay-producing bacteria and give a digital readout to guide the dentist to take the appropriate action: no treatment, sealant/preventive resin or a long-term bonded restoration. It takes only minutes to scan these surfaces and there is no sensation or discomfort when it is being used.
